Location

The Certosa di San Giacomo is located near the centre of the town of Capri just a short stroll down the hill from the piazzetta

From the main square, walk down Via Vittorio Emanuele and turn left at the Quisisana Hotel along Via Camerelle. Then turn right on Via Ignazio Cerio and continue downhill to the intersection with Via Certosa, where you will see the entrance down a ramp on your left.

Visiting Hours

The Certosa di San Giacomo is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Admission is free. The Certosa is closed on Mondays. Opening hours may change during special exhibitions.

The Custodian

Giuseppe Minopoli is the Custodian of the Certosa di San Giacomo in Capri. He has a detailed knowledge of the Certosa and provides invaluable assistance to the Friends in planning the technical aspects of events held in the Certosa’s historic spaces. 

 

How to get to Capri

Capri is an island in the Gulf of Naples just a 45 minute ride by hydrofoil from Naples (departures from Molo Beverello or Molo Mergellina) or 25 minutes from Sorrento. There are also hydrofoil connections with Ischia and the Amalfi Coast.





 

Tour of the Certosa

The historic spaces of the Certosa can easily be visited in the course of a one-hour visit. Visitors should be sure to see:

  • The Chapel and its frescoes, including the famous lunette
  • The Refectory, including the Diefenbach collection of paintings
  • The Small Cloister
  • The Large Cloister
  • The Prior’s Quarters and garden
  • The seaside garden, with its spectacular views of the Capri coastline and the Faraglioni Rocks
