International Arts Festival 2012
On 25 August, the Festival will open with the Italian premiere of the American jazz group The D.D. Jackson Trio from New York, with D.D. Jackson at the piano, Mark Peterson on bass and Tony Lewis on drums, with the 11 year old American jazz prodigy Matthew Whitaker at the keyboard.
On 26 August, the Friends will host the second annual Certosa Kids Club evening dedicated to the children of Capri, with The Street Made of Chocolate: Stories of Gianni Rodari starring Milena Vukotic and Marco Gambino, who will read selections from Favole al Telefono and other stories by Gianni Rodari accompanied by pianist Angela Annese.
The same evening will see the opening of Certosa Dreams, an exhibition of art inspired by the Certosa by the students of the Glebe Montessori School of Ottawa, Canada.
On 27 August, the Friends will present Pipes of Pan in the Land of the Sirens, a site specific performance of music and literature inspired by the Certosa, with flautist Fabiana Morandi and narrator Fabio Cocifoglia, who will lead the audience in a tour of the historic spaces of the Certosa.
On 28 August the Friends will present a screening in Italian of Alice in Wonderland, the award-winning 2010 film from Walt Disney Pictures based on the stories of Lewis Carroll, directed by Tim Burton and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway.
On 29 August the Friends will host Underwater Treasures of Campania, an evening dedicated to the conservation and protection of the underwater archaeological patrimony of the region, illustrated by film clips from documentaries by Raffaele Brunetti and Marcello Adamo, with panellists Barbara Davidde, Roberto Petriaggi, Filomena Lucci, Vasco Fronzoni and Gabriele Gomez de Ayala.
On 30 August the Friends will present Classical Guitar from Brazil, a concert by Brazilian classical guitarist Esdras Maddalon.
On 31 August, in collaboration with Villa San Michele, Axel Munthe Foundation, the Festival will conclude with Music and Circus Art from Sweden, an evening of contemporary music and circus art with the musical duo Ripple & Murmur and the circus artists of Ballroom House, directed by Olle Strandberg.
The Certosa di San Giacomo is a 14th century monastery located on the island of Capri in Italy. No longer a working monastery, it is a public monument used as a venue for concerts, lectures, art exhibits and other events.
Friends of the Certosa di Capri is an international association of charitable organisations dedicated to the restoration, preservation and support of the Certosa and its programmes.
